The sidebar capture card is the quickest way to understand and control recording.

Pause and start recording

When Ambient is recording, press Pause below the capture card. A normal pause waits until you press Start again and survives an app restart. Use the arrow beside Pause for a timed pause:
  • For 15 minutes
  • For 1 hour
  • Until tomorrow morning — resumes at 08:00 local time
While paused, the card shows when recording will resume. Press Start at any time to resume immediately. Your individual source settings stay unchanged, so Ambient resumes only the sources that were previously enabled. You can also control recording from the Windows/Linux tray, the macOS Dock menu, the live-recording control, or Settings → Capture. A timed pause resumes after sleep or after reopening Ambient if its resume time has passed.
Permission problems, sign-out, setup, or an update can block recording independently of your Start/Pause choice. Follow the message in the capture card when Start does not resume capture.

Review Activity

Open Activity to see processed threads built from recent recorded work. A thread groups related observations over time. Activity can continue to work even when assistant features are disabled for your organization. The capture card distinguishes local recording from processing. If it says Capturing locally or Processing paused, recording may still be continuing while derived Activity is delayed.

Export activity

1

Open Activity

Wait for the threads you need to appear. Load earlier threads first if you want them included.
2

Choose Export

Select Export in the Activity header.
3

Select threads

Ambient selects the currently loaded threads by default. Check or uncheck individual threads; one export can include up to 200.
4

Save the JSONL file

Choose Export selected threads, then select where to save it. Ambient shows progress and lets you cancel before completion.
Each exported thread contains a metadata record followed by its ordered observations and any handoff proposals. The export contains readable processed activity text and may contain sensitive information. It does not include screenshot or audio files.
Review exported files before sharing them. An export can include activity captured when redaction was disabled.
